Mechanism of tobacco osmotin gene in plant responses to biotic and abiotic stress tolerance: A brief history

چکیده
Plants are recurrently exposed to myriads of biotic and abiotic stresses leading several biochemical physiological variations that cause severe impacts on plant growth survival. To overcome these challenges, plants activate two primary defense mechanisms, such as structural response (cell wall strengthening waxy epidermal cuticle development) metabolic changes, including the synthesis anti-microbial compounds proteins, especially pathogenesis-related (PR) proteins. PR proteins members a super large family exhibit antimicrobial activities. Their over-expression in provides tolerance many stresses. have been classified into 17 families, PR-5–also called thaumatin-like (TLPs) involve osmotin osmotin-like (OLPs). Osmotin was first identified tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum var. Wisconsin 38), then its homolog (OLPs) were reported from whole kingdom. OLPs ubiquitous all fruits vegetables. expression has detected various tissues organs. The phylogenetic tree studies revealed group originated spermatophytes. Moreover, atomic structure OLP shown similarity thaumatin TLPs monocot eudicot species, which determines strong evolutionary pressure flowering for conserving fold. This is associated with role against pathogens molecules induce stress factors. In this review, we briefly described development history osmotin, function mechanism plants.

Plant Responses to Simultaneous Biotic and Abiotic Stress: Molecular Mechanisms.
Plants are constantly confronted to both abiotic and biotic stresses that seriously reduce their productivity. Plant responses to these stresses are complex and involve numerous physiological, molecular, and cellular adaptations. Recent evidence shows that a combination of abiotic and biotic stress can have a positive effect on plant performance by reducing the susceptibility to biotic stress. ...
متن کاملOverexpression of a New Osmotin-Like Protein Gene (SindOLP) Confers Tolerance against Biotic and Abiotic Stresses in Sesame
Osmotin-like proteins (OLPs), of PR-5 family, mediate defense against abiotic, and biotic stresses in plants. Overexpression in sesame of an OLP gene (SindOLP), enhanced tolerance against drought, salinity, oxidative stress, and the charcoal rot pathogen. SindOLP was expressed in all parts and localized to the cytosol. The transgenic plants recovered after prolonged drought and salinity stress,...

Plants have evolved complex mechanisms to perceive environmental cues and develop appropriate and coordinated responses to abiotic and biotic stresses. Considerable progress has been made towards a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms of plant response to a single stress. However, the existence of cross-tolerance to different stressors has proved to have great relevance in the contr...
متن کاملStress-induced senescence and plant tolerance to abiotic stress.
Senescence is an age-dependent process, ultimately leading to plant death, that in annual crop plants overlaps with the reproductive stage of development. Research on the molecular and biochemical mechanisms of leaf senescence has revealed a multi-layered regulatory network operating to control age-dependent processes. Abiotic stress-induced senescence challenges source-sink relationships and r...
متن کاملOverexpression in transgenic tobacco reveals different roles for the rice homeodomain gene OsBIHD1 in biotic and abiotic stress responses.
The rice OsBIHD1 gene encodes a transcriptional factor belonging to the homeodomain class. It had previously been shown to be activated by treatment with benzothiadiazole, a chemical inducer of disease resistance, and in an incompatible interaction between rice and the blast fungus. To allow a better understanding of the function of OsBIHD1 in plant disease resistance response, the OsBIHD1 gene...
